Erik K. St. Louis, M.D.
Class of 1987
Following graduation, I completed medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin (Milwaukee, 1993) and residency/fellowship training in neurology and epilepsy/clinical neurophysiology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Rochester (1993-1998). Initially I worked in private practice at the Marshfield Clinic, then moved in 2001 to Iowa City where I work at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Here, I co-direct the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, and direct the Event-Related Potentials (ERP) Laboratory. I am currently pursuing additional training in clinical investigation in the UI Carver College of Medicine. My principle research interest is the study of cognitive aspects of neurological and related medical disorders. Utilizing the ERP technique, our laboratory has studied altered cerebral function in epilepsy, Huntington and Alzheimer Disease, cerebellar and sleep disorders, and hepatic encephalopathy. On the family front, I am married to Kerith (Swanson) St. Louis ('89 Ole), with 3 kids Aren (12), Kjersti (9), and Siri (6), and kitten Sigvart and lab Belle to boo, and am still gigging occasionally as a member of The Doctet.

Malcolm Bruce Lindsay, M.D.
Class of 1985
I've enjoyed catching up with the Bio Dept on line recently and
thought I'd make contact. After St. Olaf, I completed a Master's
program in Biology/Immunology at Mankato State University. I then
went to Medical School at the Chicago Medical School and specialized
in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago. I have been
working at the University of Wisconsin, Madison since 1996. I now
work half time Emergency Medicine and half time with UW Med Flight
as Medical Director/Flight Physician.

I'm married and have 3 wonderful kids, hopefully future members
of the classes of 2019, 2021 and 2024! I will be moving to a new
home and will be able to host students visiting Madison for Med
School Interviews. I'd be pleased to correspond with any current
students interested in careers in medicine, etc.

Gail A. Bishop, Ph.D.
Class of 1977
I am currently a Professor of Microbiology at The University of
Iowa, and the Director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Immunology.
In September I was thrilled to be selected for the University of
Iowa Graduate College Outstanding Mentor Award. My students, present
and former, and my colleagues nominated me; the award is given alternate
years. It meant a great deal to me. Details, if you are interested,
can be found at this link:
http://www.uiowa.edu/~ournews/2003/september/092503faculty-mentors.html.
My research is in the area of the molecular mechanisms of B lymphocyte
activation.

Lotte Dyrbye, M.D.
Class of 1991
Married Richard Wright, Alum '91, in 1996 Graduated from U of WI
Medical School 1996 Employment: U of Washington, Internal Medicine
Residency
I postponed entrance into medical school for one year and worked
for a small biotechnology corporation in Eden Prairie, Minnesota
after graduating from St. Olaf. As I was not fond of bench-work,
I was happy to start medical school in 1992.
Now, I am finishing up my third year of internal medicine residency
at the University of Washington, Seattle. In September of 1999,
I plan to join a small internal medicine private practice group
in Seattle. In my free time, I run into "Oles" in the darndest of
places, i.e. the streets of Amsterdam, hiking Mt. Rainier, buying
fish at Pikes market in Seattle, shopping for luggage, etc.
I would like to thank Ted Johnson for his encouragement to apply
for medical school despite disappointing MCAT scores, Kathie Fishbeck
for her enthusiasm at St. Olaf, and John Giannini for making biology
logical and fun. The efforts made by all of you make the world of
difference. You are greatly appreciated.
I would be willing to serve as an e-mail mentor to students.

Jennifer Hartz Rubin
Class of 1995
I finished my PhD in Plant Biology in 2001 that focused on effects
of atmospheric CO2 on forest succession at the University of Illinois,
amidst the corn fields of central Illinois. I studied how elevated
atmospheric carbon dioxide influences tree growth and photosynthesis
and also what plant traits may contribute to survival of young trees
in the forest understory. I did my field work at a site in North
Carolina that pumps high amounts of carbon dioxide into a forest.
Since 2001, I have been working on postdoctoral research with Dr.
Tad Weaver at Montana State University in Bozeman. My current research
addresses how management regimes in mixed-grass prairie affects
non-native plant invasion of native communities. I work on National
Wildlife Refuge lands in northwestern North Dakota, doing most of
my work during the summers. My husband is a wildlife biologist with
the US Fish and Wildlife Service; it is fun to collaborate on projects
and project ideas with him.
I am currently teaching at Rochester Community and Technical College
(just down the road from St. Olaf!). I started here in August and
am enjoying my new job, the students and Rochester as well.
I would be happy to tell you more about my research or career path
any time! Please email me!

David A. Lee, M.D.
Class of: 1979
M.S. Genetics (Immunology) 1984, M.D. (1979) University of Minnesota
and currently with St. Paul Radiology. I will continue with my Emergency
Radiology career until I can find a job as a salaried soccer coach
(in lieu of doing it for free, season after season). I'm still working
on the lottery approach too. Cas and I recently played music together
for the first time in 20 years and it sounded pretty good.

Wendy L. Rose
Class of 1995
I have been pursuing my master's degree at the College of William
and Mary's School of Marine Science (SMS) Virginia Institute of
Marine Science. Much of the research conducted in the Environmental
Sciences department at SMS concerns the distribution and effects
of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on aquatic biota of the
Chesapeake Bay. As part of this program, I have been studying the
ability of the carcinogenic PAH, benzo(a)pyrene, to bind DNA in
tissues integral to the immune system of the mummichog Fundulus
heteroclitus.
If any students are interested in marine biology or aquatic toxicology,
I would be happy to talk with them about this area of research,
internships at Mote Marine Lab, programs at the Duke University
Marine Lab, or the graduate program in marine science at VIMS-SMS.
