Summer research offers students an opportunity to do field and/or lab research under the close supervision of a faculty member or advanced graduate student.  These are not technician jobs washing glassware or cleaning cages; they are small-scale independent research projects designed to be completed in 8-12 weeks. Alumna Ally Smith '03 gave a recent talk addressing her experiences in public health and medicine.  Her global travels and the exposure they brought her caused her to change her career from public health to the more solutions-based approach of medicine.  Megan McGovern '12 shares Ally’s advice and lays out the options in healthcare careers. why do birds migrate

Have you ever wondered why birds migrate back north when there is so much more food available in the South – or why they even migrate at all?  Student Naturalist Jon Henn '12 explains the causes of bird migration and discusses the amazing migrations of our resident raptors and warblers, among other birds. More

This fall, several students have traveled to St. Olaf’s Weaver Dunes field station near Kellogg, MN to net and band Northern Saw-whet owls.  Julie Dahl '12 summarizes their experiences and explains the basics of bird banding. More
