The Marine Tank
St. Olaf College has a new 180-gallon salt-water aquarium. The tank was set-up in late April of 2012 and an Open house was held to present the aquarium to the St. Olaf Community. Sincere thanks goes to student contributor and donor David Skiba ’13 who initiated this project. Additional thanks for financial support goes to The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Marie M. Meyer Distinguished Professorship held by Professor of Biology Henry Kermott and Pat Ceas. Dave Burton, Devin Lackie, Pat Ceas, Gregg Menning and Todd Code all played instrumental roles setting up the tank. An aquarium club, with the goals of learning about marine aquarium ecology and maintenance, is already in the making and is being headed by student Katie Ulvestad. This tank will also benefit the students who are enrolled in various biology courses including intro biology, organismal, vertebrate, invertebrate, island biology, and animal behavior.
