This web page was developed as an independent project for credit at St. Olaf College. My objectives were to learn how to read present articles in organic chemistry and interpret the information into an interactive web page that demonstrates the overall syntheses. Over the semester I learned program in HTML, CSS and JavaScript in order to develop dynamic content. The synthesis page for article 1 shows a non-interactive page that can be utilized by browsers with versions less than Netscape 4.0 and IE 4.0. The synthesis pages for articles 2-6 include interactive elements, showing a step-by-step process of building a compound. These pages can be viewed properly only by using Netscape 4.0 and IE 4.0 or better (note:best viewed in Netscape). The main page on article 2 has a unique script to change the graphics and their corresponding links. Article 5 demonstrates the use of the Chime plug-in, which shows a 3D interactive graphic based upon X-ray Crystallographic data. Email me at bruce@stolaf.edu if you have any questions or comments.
