Chemistry Department Senior Awards, 2000

Merck Awards: to Christine Anderson and Emina Stojkovic, the two highest ranking GPA students. Merck & Co., Inc sponsors this award. Each Awardee receives an inscribed copy of the Merck Index.

The American Institute of Chemists Foundation Award: to Erin Carlson. This award sponsored by the American Institute of Chemists honors a graduate who has a demonstrated record of ability, leadership and professional promise. A certificate and a one-year membership in the AIC are awarded.

The 2000 Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry goes to Joe Lohmeyer. This award consists of an eight-month honorary membership in the American Chemical Society Division of Analytical Chemistry, as well as an eight-month subscription to Analytical Chemistry.

HyperCube, Inc. sponsors the HyperCube Scholar Award. This year's recipient is John Craighead. John will receive a soft-key version of the HyperCube software package "HyperChem."

Courtland and Ellen Agre, in 1981, gave money to be used as senior awards to a high-ranking student going on in medicine and a high-ranking student going on to graduate school in chemistry. This year's recipients of the cash prizes are Melissa Brand (medical school) and Emily Walker (graduate school).

Chemistry department faculty member Robert Hanson donated a signed edition of his book "Molecular Origami" to a student. This year's recipient is Josh Gatzke.

Doughnut Award: The Chemistry Department also recognizes Josh Gatzke and Emina Stojkovic for being the graduating seniors who attended the most departmental seminars. They each attended 15 seminars. They will each received a certificate and appropriately a lot of doughnuts.

Departmental Service Awards this year go to: Heather Hrodey, Kate Helgen, Nate Falk, Nick Aerisolphal, Erin Urbanski, and Brenna Yard.
