Annual Senior Banquet 2001 Awards
Senior chemistry majors were honored with special awards at the Chemistry Senior Banquet that was held at the Buntrock Commons on the evening of May 3rd, 2001. The awards and awardees are as follows.
Merck Awards: to Nicole Duvall and Sara L. Johnson. Merck & Co., Inc sponsors this award. Each awardee received an inscribed copy of the Merck Index.
The American Institute of Chemists Foundation Award: to Alex Hains. This award sponsored by the American Institute of Chemists honors a graduate who has a demonstrated record of ability, leadership and professional promise. A certificate and a one-year membership in the AIC are awarded.
The 2001 Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry: to Andrew Lantz. This award consists of an eight-month honorary membership in the American Chemical Society Division of Analytical Chemistry, as well as an eight-month subscription to Analytical Chemistry.
HyperCube, Inc. sponsors the HyperCube Scholar Award. This year's recipient is Eric Brown; received a soft-key version of the HyperCube software package "HyperChem".
Courtland and Ellen Agre, in 1981, started an endowment to recognize the highest GPA students going on to medical school and to graduate school in chemistry. This year's recipients of the cash prizes are Matt Brahs and Kristen Bjorkman.
Chemistry department faculty member Robert Hanson donated a signed edition of his book "Molecular Origami" to a student interested in pursuing a career in education in the chemical sciences. This year's recipient was Sean Holmes.
The Prestigious and most Coveted Doughnut Award: The Chemistry Department recognized Kris Keuseman for being the graduating senior who had attended the most departmental seminar Kris attended 25 seminars as of the date of the banquet, and finished the year off with 26. He receives a certificate and appropriately a lot of doughnuts.
