PROVOST'S SABBATICAL SERIES LUNCHEON
Wednesday, March 9, 2005
Bob Jacobel, Professor of Physics
Karen Peterson Wilson, Associate Professor of Theatre
On behalf of Jim May, Provost and Dean of the College, CILA announces the spring semester "Provost's Sabbatical Series" Luncheon.
The Provost's Series recognizes the wide range of impressive and fascinating sabbatical projects in which our faculty are engaged. Each semester, the Provost invites two faculty members to give short presentations about their scholarly/professional work in a manner accessible to a general audience. In addition, presenters will comment on what they did to plan and prepare for their leaves, and on how they have managed the transition back to the classroom (including the ways in which they have integrated their sabbatical work with their teaching). Presenters are chosen to highlight the diversity of sabbatical projects from recent faculty leaves.
On March 9, Bob Jacobel will talk about his research experiences at the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge England and the University of Stockholm in Sweden, as well as some of his travel and field experiences in Norway, Sweden and Antarctica. Karen Wilson will explain the circumstances and work that have led to the pilot program of "The New Plays on Campus Collaboration," as well as her research and writing, spurred by her Boldt seminar experiences, to develop an approach to the study of ethics specifically for theatre artists. She also worked on new rules for MN K-12 teaching licensure of theatre and dance educators, due to go into effect in September 2005.
If you would like to attend this special luncheon to hear Bob's and Karen's presentations and to discuss their projects - and sabbatical leaves in general - please RSVP by return email no later than Monday, March 7. Space is limited for this event.
