Provost's Sabbatical Series

In 2003, Provost and Dean of the College Jim May inaugurated the Provost's Sabbatical Series. The series highlights the sabbatical work of selected St. Olaf College faculty members. As Provost May commented at that time:

This past fall, I enjoyed very much reading the sabbatical reports that came into the office. As I read these, I could not help but think that more of us should have the opportunity to learn about the wide range of impressive and fascinating projects in which our faculty are engaged.

Each semester, the Provost invites two faculty members to participate in a session wherein each is asked to talk briefly about his or her scholarly and professional work in a manner that is accessible to a general audience. In addition, the presenters comment on what they did to prepare for their leaves, and on how they have managed the transition back to the classroom (including the ways in which they have integrated their sabbatical work with their teaching). Presenters are chosen to highlight the diversity of sabbatical projects at St. Olaf College.

The Center for Innovation in the Liberal Arts is responsible for managing the Provost's Sabbatical Series. The Faculty Development Committee co-sponsors the series.
