The Summer Institute for Teaching and Technology
The Center for Innovation in the Liberal Arts and
IIT are pleased to announce the 6th Annual Summer Institute for Teaching
and Technology (SITT), June 7th through June 11th, 2004.
This year the Summer Institute for Teaching and Technology is partially funded by a grant from the Bush Foundation to "support faculty development with a focus on the scholarship of teaching and learning." The 2004 Summer Institute is intended for faculty who are beginning to explore the uses of instructional technology. It will also be valuable for those who have begun to use instructional technology, but who would like the opportunity for systematic reflection about the use of this technology to construct meaningful assignments.
This
weeklong program will provide you the opportunity to learn how St.
Olaf faculty are currently using technology in their classes, and
it will help you to learn how to use the technologies described
below for your own teaching purposes.
The program is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.
No more than this number can be accomodated this year.
Faculty will receive a stipend of $450 for participation in the workshop and will be eligible for enhanced support from IIT for 9 months following the workshop.

PRELIMINARY SESSION DETAILS
Participants will learn how to use the industry standard program
Adobe Photoshop Elements to manipulate images captured from scanners,
digital cameras, clip art, etc. Faculty will get hands-on experience
using a flat bed scanner and will even be able to shoot photographs
using a digital camera.
June 8 CREATING WEB PAGES
In this session, faculty will learn how to create web pages using
a page editor. Web page editors provide many tools that allow the
user to construct and publish a web page with text, lines, colors,
tables, images, links, and more, without knowing HTML -- the markup
language used to create web pages.
June 9 CREATING ELECTRONIC PRESENTATIONS WITH POWERPOINT
This presentation will provide faculty with the skills to create
and present their lecture and discussion materials electronically
using PowerPoint. PowerPoint is a presentation graphics program
for making professional-looking presentations quickly and easily.
It is designed to format text and pictures into attractive screen
displays (or slides) that can be used in an on-screen presentation.
PowerPoint presentations also can be printed onto overhead transparencies,
or paper handouts.
June 8-10 EVENING OPEN LAB TIME
From 7:00-10:00 IIT student workers will be available in the IIT
Media Lab so participants can work on their projects using the skills
developed during the week. The student staff will be available to
provide one-on-one consulting and assistance.
