Mary Titus joined the St. Olaf English Department in 1989. She received her B.A. from Skidmore College and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A specialist in American literature, her areas of interest include the literature of the American South, American women poets, and American material culture. At St. Olaf, Mary has taught courses in the English Department, Women's Studies, and American Studies. She is currently teaching in the American Conversations program. Mary also serves on the Heritage Perservation Commission for Northfield's downtown commercial district and on the board of the Northfield Historical Society. She collects costume jewelry and buttons and is currently involved in the scholarship of collecting. She lives in Northfield, Minnesota with her husband Chris Bashor and daughters Ellen and Laura.
