Criminalistics: the analyzing and interpreting of a wide range of evidence available at a crime scene. In some respects, criminalistics is synonymous with Forensic science. It requires a strong background in science, well developed skills in analysis and critical thinking, and a good understanding of the way the mind works and how it has been, and continues to be, influenced by society
