VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
Adopt a Grandparent. Interacted with nursing home residents and hosted weekly activities at Three Links Nursing Home (2001-2002).
Asthma Camp through Loyola Hospital. Cared for campers, ages 6-12, with severe life threatening asthma. Taught classes on how to prevent and manage asthma (summer 2002).
Counselor for Body Trek. Taught children, ages 9-13, about parts and functions of the human body, observed open heart surgery, assisted students in dissecting animal organs, helped plan and organize activities, and directed a skit the children performed for their parents about what they learned in the program (summer 2000 & 2002).
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Corridor Representative. Elected to serve as a communication link between the floor/corridor members and the hall council. Attended retreats and training programs, assessed needs of corridor members, sought ideas/concerns, and communicated with constituents on hall council issues (2001-2002).
Ambassador Host. Selected to host prospective students interested in attending St. Olaf College. Provided campus tours and gave prospective students a feel for the College and its environment (2001-2003).
Recipient of St. Olaf Entrepreneurial Finstad Grant. Owner of Contemporarily Retro, an on-campus specialty gift store that specializes in dorm décor (2004-2005).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Ambassador Host Supervisor. One of four students asked to organize overnight stays and arrange for perspective students to experience what St. Olaf College has to offer (2002-2003).
Junior Counselor. Assumed a variety of roles in order to facilitate a healthy living environment for college residence halls. With the primary responsibility as a resource for residents, other roles included coordinating programs that stimulated community development, peer advising, and administrative responsibilities (2003-2004).
Wellness Peer Educator . As the nutrition specialist for the Wellness Center at St. Olaf College, I organized and presented two programs per month on topics related to healthy eating habits and nutrition (2003-2004).
RESEARCH/INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
Geriatrics Research through University of Illinois. Researched how diet and exercise affect the aging process. Assisted with the annual ‘Get in Shape Walk’ in downtown Chicago (summer 2002).
Internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Observed and shadowed medical professionals in the operating room and in clinics, and became educated about the variety of fields in healthcare (interim 2003).
ShadowingExperience at University of Illinois Hospital. Accompanied a medical team on rounds in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (interim 2003).
Shadowing Experience at the University of Minnesota Hospital. Shadowed a pediatrician in the Pediatric Unit (fall 2003).
