Co-teaching Environmental Studies 222: Campus Ecology with Jim Farrell
Campus Ecology is a St. Olaf course designed by a fellow CIS student, Elise Nienow (Braaten) '04. She created Campus Ecology as her senior project in 2003-2004 and the campus has never been the same since! Campus Ecology is, in Elise's words, "an exploration in practical idealism, ecological literacy, responsible citizenship, and transforming our world(s)." In my words, it's a class that encourages students to dig deep into the things in life that really matter! Along with topics like water resources, cafeteria food, and American consumption we also discussed living authentic, fulfilling lives, love, sustainability, what home means, and how to see the world holistically. I took the class my sophomore year and then Jim invited me to co-teach it with him the spring semester of my junior year.
Teaching the agriculture section of Intro to Environmental Studies with Professor John Schade
This is the presentation I gave to the class as an introduction to some of the agricultural issues we face today as well as an overview of the history of U.S. agriculture.
