Politics
Politics and development deals with power relations within development and development policy ... Is democracy necessary for positive development? How does corruption affect development? Who gets to make decisions about development and why? Can politicians enforce their development policies? Who influences development policy (the World Bank, constituents, corporations, foriegn politicians, etc.)? Are Third World governments able to act in their own interests?
For further reading on politics and development I recommend “The Third World and the Right to Development: Agenda for the Next Millennium” in the Human Rights Quarterly, volume 22 (2000), Amy Chua's World on Fire (2003), and Howard Handelmann's Challenges of Third World Development (2003).
