Here's a picture I took of the sun setting over the St. Olaf College wetlands on a fine spring evening in April of 2005.

I part the out thrusting branches

and come in beneath

the blessed and the blessing trees.

Though I am silent

there is singing around me.

Though I am dark

there is vision around me.

Though I am heavy

there is flight around me.

--Wendell Berry

You ask

Why I perch

on a jade green mountain?

I laugh

but say nothing

my heart

free

like a peach blossom

in the flowing stream

going by

in the depths

in another world

not among men

--Li Po
"We told the native peoples of North America that their relationships with the land were worthless, primitive. Now we are a culture that spends millions trying to find this knowledge, trying to reestablish a sense of well-being with the earth." --Barry Lopez
