PUPPET CONSTRUCTION
(Above) Here's a "skeleton" of one of the rod puppets. It has a "spine", "shoulders", and jointed arms. (All the puppets' skeletons will be made with these same materials: old sawed-off broom-handles, metal eyelits, and duct tape.) (Below) Here is one of the belts my dad made to attach the puppets to the puppeteers' waists. It's made of double-thick leather. There is a slit above and below the belt for the puppet's "spine" to go through.
(Above) Here's a flower I made for Vasilissa to plant during the puppet show. It is made of a small wooden dowel, wrapped with green tape, and an old fake flower top and fake leaf. (Below) Here are the beginnings of the birch tree costumes. Instead of a black marker (left), I am now using black acrylic paint to make the birch tree lines and knots (see below right).
