"All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." Pablo Picasso

This is the artwork that I produced for the second half of my senior project. I decided to take pictures of people and their artwork, or people involved in an art form of some kind. I wanted to show that people of all ages can be affected by art, and actively participate in an art form every day. The artwork below the black and white photographs was done by students from ARTech School of Arts and Technology in Northfield, Minnesota. I was able to teach a short class for them for several weeks, and we discussed how art and society are intricately related. Their artwork comments on a few important issues to them: globalization, censorship, media, and music. The final few pieces were done by me as a comment on how art is defined differently by almost every person that I know. Furthermore, art affects people in very differ net ways, and I wanted to acknowledge that. I collected words and phrases from friends describing "what art means to me" and then created a few small pieces to hang from the ceiling of the gallery space to remind people that art is always moving and changing, and really surrounds us at all times. A longer description of the artwork and my process can be found in the second half of the Senior Project page.
