The Center for Integrative Studies works to find connections across disciplines. It also seeks to find connections between senior projects and individual majors. Throughout my time at St. Olaf College, I was presented with opportunities to discuss, formally and informally, how my research augmented and interacted with the research of my cohorts. Below is a selection of the work from my fellow majors that closely connects with my project.

Dynamics of Colonialism
"Beginning in the mid-1960s, the discipline of history underwent a significant paradigm shift. Whereas before this time period, history was an accepted academic tradition grounded in facts as respected as scientific truth, philosophers like Thomas Kuhn and Michael Foucault brought about a post-modern critique of history, authorship and the authority of knowledge. They asserted that the idea of a truthful, accurate and complete 'history' is myth."

Interpretive Studies in Sustainable Development
"It is important for me to understand various local meanings and customs of sustainable development and then place those meanings within their regional, national and international contexts. Put more simply, instead of being interested in a universal set of rules in evaluating sustainable development, I am attracted to the assessments of how local knowledge can provide varying understandings within sustainable systems."

"I think (environmental troubles are) largely due to a devaluation of nature in western society, which has desensitized people to nature’s beauty and value. Have humans become alienated from nature? Can our capacity to observe the beauty of nature be fostered in our society? Can we see the intricate interdependence of all parts of the ecosystem?"
