Essays and Articles
One of the products of an independent major is a set of works that center around a common theme. Even when an essay does not directly relate to discourse analysis, it might address some of the assumptions, concepts, or conclusions of discourse analysis. Additionally, an outline of works written from within an independent major can be seen as a genealogy of the senior project.
The trouble with presenting the works generated by an independent major is that the actual words written represent only a tiny fraction of the thoughts created through the course of the major. As such, I present a selection of my works in a web-like arrangement that stresses the intertextuality of my learning throughout this major. Keep in mind that these documents were created over a long span of time, including works from the first year to senior year (with equally large variance in quality); however, there is still strong consistency between each article.
In the following illustration, the medium is a good portion of the message. In addition to highlighting the intertextual knowledge that exists between the outputs of my major, this illustration is an example of the web-like representation of knowledge that I discuss throughout this website. Web-like representation stands as a minor, though useful alternative to linear-text representation; however, on a less accepted point, web-like representation can be seen as a method of thought alternative to the linear-rationality that is dominant through much of academic thought. Please view the Worksweb Representation for an example of this type of thought.
