Description
Focuses on the basic skills of marketing and advertising, but specializes in how to market and advertise in media. Incorporates basic skills on how to verbally propose ideas and strategies, analyze demographics, recognize target audiences, and manage marketing and advertizing projects while staying within a budget. Explores advertising through different mediums such as television, Internet, and magazines, and etcetera. Investigates ethical controversies pertaining to advertising in media, as well as incorporates a foundation in media history and contemporary culture.
Rationale
By studying these subjects I will obtain the ability to successfully market and advertise many products, especially films. This is a suitable major for St. Olaf not only because the college’s departments can supply the major’s necessary components, but also because the major itself promotes creative activity, critical thinking, and ethical reflection. This major connects a broad spectrum of departments, classes, and subjects to build a solid foundation for personal development in marketing and advertising. My goal is to graduate with academic excellence.
