When I told my then advisor Professor Santurri that I wanted to do a comparative analysis of several theories of war and do it all within 50 pages, he looked at me like I was crazy. It turns out he was right, but I was able to complete the project anyway. This labor of love would not have been possible without the following:

To Professor Booth for focusing my ideas and encouraging me to write my own major.

To Professor Santurri for all of his guidance in the initial stages of the project and for piquing my interest in the subject matter through his classes on war.

To Professor Sedgwick at the American University in Cairo for taking me under his wing and showing me a proper method of Islamic scholarship.

To Ken Johnson for his help as my librarian.

To the Center for Integrative Studies: to Director Titus for her enthusiasm and to Susan Carlson for believing in me.

To Professor Rambachan for acting as an unofficial advisor for the Hindu section and for his great willingness to instruct and assist me in the final stages of the project.

To Professor Schillinger for acting as my unofficial advisor on Islam and for teaching me the comparative ethics methodology that would prove essential to my project.

To my parents for supporting and believing in me, even when my mother didn't know what else to tell people I was majoring in beyond 'thinking.'

To my wonderful friends for reminding me to laugh and for getting me coffee in the last week of the project. I love you.

And finally, to my advisor Professor Taliaferro, for his great willingness to assist me on little notice, his patience, his excellent advice, and most of all his strong belief that I could bring this project to a successful conclusion.

You all have my deepest gratitude.
