“Colonialism [was] based on [the] premise that the brown faces aren't really people” -George Orwell, Marrakech Our globalized age springs from a colonial history that connected populations from different continents in a hierarchical structure. The imperative next step after a military victory demanded that the colonized people support the hierarchy, which colonial governments accomplished by dividing the population and letitimizing foreign dominance. The relationship between the colonizer and colonized constructed their respective identities and created new social dynamics within each population. Colonial authorities launched an emotional and conceptual stragtegy to garner support for their enterprises. In Europe and in the colonies, colonial governments constructed a hierarchy premised on inferior indigenous social structures compared to the moral authority of the foreign power. Both colonizers and colonized learned to overlook the inherent inequity of colonialism since the European nation introduced "modern" morals through education, medicine, and economy (as well as other methods that you can learn about from other sources!) Colonialism creates both the role of the colonized and colonizer in a relationship that relies on both components (these papers are in french):Portrait du colonise paper , Analysis of L'enfant du sable paper
