Requirements for a Major in Medieval Studies
1 medieval history course1 medieval literature course
Completion of the 4th semester (or higher) of Latin
5 other courses selected from the Departments of Art & Art History, Classics, English, German, History, Music, Norwegian, Philosophy, Religion, Romance Languages, and Theatre
One of the 5 electives must be an Independent Research, which gives the student a chance to explore a chosen topic in depth. Great Conversation 116 may be used as an elective.
To attain distinction in Medieval Studies, a student must demonstrate talent with medieval language and literature, skill in conducting research on a medieval topic, and broad knowledge of medieval European civilization. Specific guidelines are available from Prof. Groton, Director of the Medieval Studies Program. Students interested in pursuing distinction should notify Prof. Groton no later than January 1 of their senior year.
