INTERNET RESOURCES & DEVELOPMENT

  • Dance Department Website Creator / Content Collaborator (ongoing)
    • Developed initial iterations of the Dance Department website during the mid-1990s. I continue to serve as a supporting content creator for the Department site, while managing my individual pages within the site.
  • Dance Department Online Video Gallery (ongoing project)
    • During the 2009-2010 academic year, I initiated, coordinated planning, tested, and wrote 'how to' documentation for the digitization of the Dance Department's extensive video collection. I recruited, trained and continue to manage a cache of dance major work study students during the implementation phase of this project, which will be active and ongoing for the foreseeable future.
The goals of the project are to:
      1. transfer and archive the department's current and previous video collection to a digital format for more efficient current and future storage and access.
      2. continue to provide a more vibrant departmental brand by uploading select performance events and make them available for online distribution via non-downloadable streaming technologies.
      3. provide dance majors with student research and work study opportunities in digital technologies.
  • Dance Department Online Photo Gallery (ongoing project)
    • From 2003 to present, I have created web galleries for dance department photographs taken by professional photographer, Erik Saulitis. These photographs feature St. Olaf College dancers from our two performing companies, Companydance & Veselica International Dance Ensemble. The dancers are pictured in choreography by students, dance department faculty and guest artists, with program information listed beside many of the images.

  • Connect the Dots of Tom
    • My brother’s only child, Bethany, was born just twelve days after he died. I realized there were so many facets of his life that she would never know and I was going to miss.
At the time, my then 5-year old daughter, Abby, loved to complete "connect-the-dots pictures." Even though her early attempts to connect-the-dots were noteworthy artistic endeavors in her parents’ eyes, they were actually full of unrelated associations and gaps, which left us struggling to identify and appreciate the completed picture. This gave me an idea.
I imagined that Tom’s life on earth was an expansive connect-the-dots picture, with each distinctive dot representing a single relationship established during his lifetime. If the dots were to be connected with thoughtfulness and care, the resulting picture would illuminate the essence of who Tom was: the son, brother, friend, colleague, husband and father.
At Tom's memorial, I made a request of those who were present. I asked them to write down and send me their unique stories of their relationships with Tom, and I would make them available to his daughter, Bethany. Up to this point, I have received 27 stories. These dots are now online, accessible for all of us, who want to remember Tom and how he touched the lives of others.
