The Briefing Room at the Whitehouse

The Briefing room has two parts: Economics and Social Statistics. Both provide summaries of current statistics and conditions from various federal agencies in text and graphics.

Federal Reserve Board of Governors

This is the source for Fed statistical releases, Open Market Committee news, the Beige Book and more.

Federal Reserve Banks

Some of the best sites are maintained by our local Fed (Minneapolis), New York, Boston, St. Louis, and Chicago. These sites will also provide links to other regional Feds.

Federal Departments, Bureaus, Commissions, etc.

Data and reports can be found directly at sites maintained by the Department of Commerce, Department of Justice - Antitrust Division, Department of Labor, Department of the Treasury, Bureau of the Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Federal Trade Commission, Securities and Exchange Commission, and Council of Economic Advisors.

Minnesota State Legislature and State Government (NorthStar)

The state legislature maintains its own site with information on the House and Senate, Minnesota statutes, and links to other legislative sites. NorthStar is the state government WWW service with links to state agencies and departments.

For news of today, try The New York Times (requires free registration), The Washington Post, and USA Today. Both the Times and Post have excellent search facilities for finding current and past articles.

State News

The Minneapolis Star Tribune and Saint Paul Pioneer Press maintain sites on the Web. The Star Tribune provides better access for non-subscribers. Also check WCCO's site for state news.
