Philosophy: As a teacher, it has been my goal to engage the mind of the student in matters and issues that are of significance to them and to people throughout time. I have wanted to remain open to new thought, new forms of being and new ways to organize ourselves, while remaining connected with previously agreed upon ideas, forms and patterns. It appears our time is limited, giving some urgency to our deliberations, and it appears, as well, that we, as humans, are interestingly situated in the stream of things, hopefully helping to give our musings some significance. In any event, after many years and students, there is a feeling of deep reverence in me for what people do when they are teaching and for what we all do when we are learning.
