The advertisment had claimed that the carrier pigeons had been fastidiously trained to deliver messages wound around their stick-like, avian legs; Donald was surprised, then, five thousand dollars later, to find them clumped outside their modified window-exit, jabbering like old women in a soup line, the white slips rustling uselessly in the breeze outside his fifth-floor studio apartment.
