2007

Arthur Paulson Award for Poetry

This award honors the memory of Professor Arthur Paulson, a long-time teacher of creative writing at St. Olaf.   The award consists of a cash prize of $150 for a collection of poems or for one long poem. Please limit to 5 poems, 10 pages maximum.

Ole E. Rolvaag Award for Fiction

This award honors the memory of St. Olaf's greatest writer, Ole Rolvaag.   The award consists of a cash prize of $150.   Submissions may consist of one or two short stories or part of a novel--not to exceed 50 pages. Fiction submission are limited to 1 story, 15 pages maximum.

Award for Creative Nonfiction Prose

This award, sponsored by the English Department, consists of a $150 cash prize for a work of creative nonfiction prose. Creative Nonfiction submissions are limited to 1 essay, 15 pages maximum.

Swanson Award for Humor

This award consists of a $50 cash prize and was established by Steve Swanson for a work of creative humor. Humor submissions are limited to 1 entry, 10 pages maximum.

Award for Best Sentence

This award consists of a $50 cash prize and will be given to the best single sentence submitted.   Submissions are limited to two separate sentences per contestant.   If a student submits more than one sentence, each sentence should be on a separate sheet of paper. Sentence submissions are limited to 2 sentences.

Important details:   All submissions should be typed in a standard 12-point font; prose should be double-spaced. The author's name should not appear on the manuscript. Submissions should be accompanied by a cover letter stating the author's name and contact information and the title of the submission (separate cover page for each entry.)
