Recommending great books and movies has always been one of Diana Postlethwaite's favorite activities in her English courses. But Diana's voice reaches far beyond the classrooms of Manitou Heights. She has reviewed contemporary fiction for publications including the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Women's Review of Books, the Nation, the Washington Post Book World, and the New York Times Book Review. The audience for her work was once much smaller and more academic--Diana has written a book and numerous articles on Victorian literature (George Eliot is her specialty here). To all of this writing, and to her teaching, she brings infectious good will and energy.

Diana enjoys teaching Victorian literature, contemporary fiction, and film and literature. These interests are reflected in her interim course on "Nineteenth-Century Myths and Twentieth-Century Movies" (in which students read (and watch) Frankenstein, Dracula, and Dr. Jerkyll and Mr. Hyde); a wide-ranging seminar on "cultural studies" and literature; and her newest classroom adventure, "Nineteenth to Twenty-First Century Novels."

Diana grew up in the Twin Cities and returned to Minnesota after twenty years as a student and then a professor on the East Coast and in Chicago. She is married to Paul Thiboutot, Dean of Admissions at Carleton College; they have two daughters, Lucy and Lily.
