First-Year Writing

First-Year Writing (GE 111) is a General Education course designed for students with varying levels of experience and confidence in writing. The course is taught in multiple sections, each with an individual theme or focus. All of the sections emphasize writing and thinking skills. Students in GE 111 can expect to do the following:

  • Read, write, and revise frequently, in a variety of genres
  • Write expository essays
  • Write one or more assignments requiring research
  • Meet individually with the course instructor to discuss writing in progress
