First
and foremost,
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the 11 farmers who took the
time to share their knowledge of conservation farming practices with
me:
Ray Larson, Dave Legvold, Paul and Barbara Liebenstein, Mike Ludwig,
Rose
Ann Steenhoek, Edward Terry, David, Matt, and three farmers who asked
that
their names remain confidential. Their efforts to act as stewards
of the land have enlightened and inspired me. This project would
not have been possible without their generosity with the wisdom they
have
gained from working with the land. At a busy time of year, they
made
the time to talk with me and show me their farms, and for this I am
very
grateful.
I would also like to thank the agricultural educators I interviewed for their valuable insights gained from working with farmers to conserve Minnesota’s land and water: Brad Becker of the Dakota County SWCD, Thomas Coffman of the Rice County SWCD, and Gyles Randall of the University of Minnesota. They, too, are busy people, and I appreciate their willingness to answer my questions. Thanks to Sheri Breen for her guidance throughout the
conception and
planning of this project, and particularly for her help in the Research
Ethics Application to Conduct Research with Human Subjects.
Application
reviewer Jo Beld also provided valuable comments on the design of my
project.
I would also like to thank Annie Olsen, Dave and Ruth Legvold, David,
and
Matt for providing transportation to and from farms for
interviews.
