Hunting
has an important and necessary role in
our relationship with this place. There is not a hunter out there
that has not heard about the "good old days" of hunting told by elder hunter
generations. The experience of harvesting animals is not why
hunters hunt. Hunting provides a healthy escape. It offers
relaxation and opportunity to spend quality time with friends and
family. Whether sitting in a duck blind or walking through a corn
field, hunting provides a rewarding, peaceful setting where people
re-connect
with eachother, and themselves, to find a sense of place.
Purpose
The purpose of this project is to inform people about waterfowl hunting
and its impacts, history, current trends in waterfowl hunting, and
information to open new hunting opportunities for people. In
doing
this, a sense of place is explained through the hunter's eyes.
This website explores waterfowl hunting in Rice County,
Minnesota. It looks
at the history of waterfowl hunting in Minnesota and Rice County, and
the current
hunting situation in Rice County. By knowing the ecological
importance of hunting, the historical roots of hunting in Rice County,
a sense of place can be
found.
