The Cannon River

The Question

My research question is the focal point of my project.  Here it is:

How can I, as a science writer, more effectively distribute place-based scientific information about the Cannon River Region?

To answer this question, I strive to do four things:

  1. Understand and practice the mechanics of good science writing (vocab, syntax, accessibility, statistics, etc.)
  2. Do the place-based scientific writing about environmental issues
  3. Distribute the resulting scientific writing pieces in a print source available to the general public
  4. Wonder about science, about writing, about the Cannon River Region, and inspire others to do the same

Explanation of my Methodology:

Any research project necessitates a methodology.  My methodology is multifarious:

  • It is exploratory and question building: it explores scientific areas deserving of public attention, and asks questions about those areas.
  • It is a localized case study: it provides local scientific information and brings it to the attention of the Cannon River Region.
  • It is a public service and information gathering project: it gathers and distributes  information that hopefully will bolster a greater understanding of the Cannon River Region through science.
An understanding of place is as important as any other aspect of science writing.  Continue on to Connecting to Place...
