White-footed Mouse compared to Deer Mouse
While not apparent in this picture (the deer mouse tail has been broken off), on average, the white-footed mouse should have a shorter tail (about 45% of total length) than the deer mouse. The ears are shorter, and the back is a more reddish brown (Hazard, 1982).
