Literature Review: Forester, J. 2004. The Forest for the Trees: How Humans Shaped the North Woods. Minnesota Historical Society Press, St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. We read this book for class and I decided to use parts of it in describing the natural history of the Superior National Forest ecosystem. The book was detailed in some parts and not very detailed in others. Additionally, it was somewhat confusing and jumbled. However, it contained some details when describing the Arrowhead region's natural history. I also used this book to help with some of the historical legislative acts and their consequences on the region. Hoving, C.L., Harrison, D.J., Krohn, W.B., Joseph, R.A. and O’Brien, M. 2005. Broad-scale predictors of Canada lynx occurrence in eastern North America. Journal of Wildlife Management 69: 739-751. I used this article to help inform the discussion on Canada lynx and the SNF management strategies. The SNF management strategies agreed broadly with the article's conclusions, illustrating that the management principles were in synchrony with the most recent scientific knowledge. The article also helped me find a few other locateable sources on Canada lynx.
