Lessons to be learned from

Dutch elm Disease

There needs to be more research done on Dutch elm disease because currently there are no fool proof ways to eradicate the disease; we are only attempting to slow the spread of the disease. We, as humans, need to realize that we are part of the problem. Not only are we responsible for the transfer of Dutch elm disease as well as many different invasive species to Minnesota but we need to play a larger role to help stop the spread of Dutch elm disease. This could be as simple as not planting elm trees to saving the elms already in our possession. We also need to realize that variables such as harsh winters will not deter the spread of invasive species.
