| This May, two graduating
senior French majors achieved distinction in the major, culminating
in the oral defense of research they completed in their final year
of study at St. Olaf. Christopher Stillion : « Entre le discours et la vérité : une exploration littéraire de l’Afrique » Chris studied colonialism through historical documents and post-independence fiction in the 300-level seminar on African literature in French (Fall 2002). He turned his course project into a distinction paper. With a double major in Environmental Studies and French, Chris hopes to serve in the Peace Corps after graduation, most likely in an agricultural setting somewhere in West Africa. Carl Hughes : « Jusqu’au bout de l’ambiguïté : la fin de l’aventure de Samba Diallo comme expérience mystique » Carl fused religious studies, philosophy and literary analysis in his senior distinction project. The project began in the 300-level seminar on African literature in French (Fall 2002). Carl’s rich academic credentials have helped him win a prestigious Fulbright award to France after graduation, and he plans to return to graduate studies in Religion after spending a year at the Sorbonne. Congratulations to both distinguished seniors. Photo by N.R. Farbman |
