This international academic internship program is designed
exclusively for St. Olaf students who have completed German 232 or the
equivalent. The program will give up to 12 students the opportunity to practice
and improve their German in a real-life environment and gather work experience.
Students will have the flexibility of youth hostel or homestay.
Students will shadow a German professional in his/her
workplace four days a week for four weeks. Every Monday they will meet for an
intensive language course at the university. Language instruction runs from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. with an hour lunch break in between. The language course will
cater for the students' particular needs and will be an addition to
"Deutsch im Beruf."
On the weekends students will go on trips together. The first trip takes them
to nearby Detmold with its well-known Freilichtmuseum and the monumental
sculpture "Hermann, der Cherusker" on the way. Another day trip will
be to Cologne, where participants will go on a tour of the city center, the
cathedral and the chocolate museum. A two-day trip to Germany's capital Berlin
will round off the program.

Those accepted to the program will have the option of doing
either a 1.0 credit or 0.5 credit academic internship. For details about the
