〜たら

たら is one of several words in Japanese that refer to conditional (if) dependance.

When we say "A　たら　B," we must mean that B is valid, contingent on the fulfillment of A.

にほんにいったら、きものをかいます。

The initial た in たら comes from the short form past tense endings of predicates.

verbs: よむ->　よんだら

い-adjectives: やさしい -> やさしかったら

な-adjectives: しずかだ -> しずかだったら

noun + です: やすみだ -> やすみだったら

negative clauses: 〜ない -> 〜なかったら
