〜ね / 〜よ
Ne is an end particle expressing the speaker's desire for confirmation
from the listener. An English equivalent might be "right?"
メアリーさんのせんもんはぶんがくですね。 Mary,
your major is literature,
right?
mearii san no senmon wa bungaku desu ne.
これはにくじゃありませんね。 This
is not meat,
is it?
kore wa niku ja arimasen ne.
Yo is another end particle that expresses the speaker's desire to
assure the listener of what has been said. A rough English translation is
"I tell you." When yo is added, the statement becomes an authoritative
decree.
とんかつはさかなじゃありませんよ。 Let me assure you, "tonkatsu" is
not fish.
tonkatsu wa sakana ja arimasen yo.
