Past Tense Short Forms

Verbs: replace て/で in te-forms with た/だ

い-adjectives in affirmative and all categories in the negative: replace the final い with かった

な-adjectives and noun+です in the affirmative: replace だ in the present tense short forms with だった

two irregularities: いく　→　いった 　　and 　　いい　→　よかった、よくなかった

Examples:

past tense affirmative:

よむ　→　よんだ

かわいい　→　かわいかった

しずか（な）　→　しずかだった

がくせい　→　がくせいだった

past tense negative:

よむ　→　よまなかった

かわいい　→　かわいくなかった

しずか（な）　→　しずかじゃなかった

がくせい　→　がくせいじゃなかった
