Greetings from Hungary!
I arrived here in Budapest on August 18th. I'm really enjoying myself
here. My host family is very nice, and every conversation is an
adventure!
I'm living on the Buda side of the Danube, which is hillier and
greener than Pest. I have to take the metro to get to my language
classes, but fortunately I live quite close to Batthyany Tér metro
station. My host mother's name is Kurucz Éva and my host father is
Kurucz Pál (following the Hungarian standard of putting the last name
first). Stephanie, another Budapest Semesters in Math student, also
lives in the same family, but we each have our own room, which is nice.
Right now I'm in the thick of our 2-week Survival Hungarian course.
(The math starts in September.) So far we've learned greetings, some
adjectives, numbers and how to tell time and dates, and we're working
on verbs. It can be very frustrating to be utterly incapable of
expressing myself with my host family! but thankfully I'm noticing a
difference due to the language class already.
My time at the internet cafe is running out, so I'll write more
later! Hope you're all enjoying the last part of summer.
Sziastok!
