Help us match you with a great room mate! If you already have a room mate in mind, please check with them and write their name below.
- I'd like to room with (room mate's name)
We'll do our best to match you with the type of person/environment you have chosen below. If you have chosen to live with an Hungarian family, some of the options listed below may not be applicable; leave them blank if they seem inappropriate.
- Housing preference:
There are three housing options; two apartment choices, "Regular" and QZA (Quiet Zone Apartments) and the option of a Homestay.
The Regular Apartment choice means there are no special restrictions or conditions
on the use of the apartment but as all apartments are in buildings with many people, you will be subject to the "House Rules."
Apartments designated as QZA are generally
in houses or apartment buildings
with working families and pensioners. Typically, the QZA apartment will be the sole exception.
Although a QZA apartment will immerse you in real Hungarian culture and will
generally be in an older, elegant area of the city, there are quite strict
parameters regarding the use of QZA apartments.
There should be no music or loud noise after 10pm.
If you come in late, avoid talking on the walkways or hallways leading to
your apartment. Say goodbye to friends inside the apartment, not in the
hallway. You may have friends over for a meal or to study, but there is a limit of 2
to 3 extra people per visit Sunday through Thursday and only until 10 pm.
You can have up to 6 extra people on Friday and Saturday, but if you want to
talk or listen to music after 10pm, this should be done at a pub or
restaurant not in the apartment.
The "Homestay" choice can vary from living with a Hungarian family in a room of your own, to staying in a studio type apartment room attached to a private residence. Typically you will take some meals with the family and this will help immerse you in Hungarian daily life. However, Homestays generally involve less privacy than apartment living.
- Smoking preference
- How much privacy do you require?
- I prefer my room to be kept:
- I prefer living in a room that is
- When studying in my room I prefer:
- I prefer this type of music
- Location preference
I prefer to live in the city center, Pest.
(near shopping, restaurants, downtown activity, short commute to school, but perhaps a smaller apartment, may share bedroom with another BSM student, have an efficiency type kitchen, be a bit pricier)
I prefer to live in the Buda hills or suburbs.
(green, quieter, near hiking and bike trails, roomier accommodations, less costly, but a longer commute to school- 40-50 minutes to school, father from shopping and cultural events)
Either sounds great to me.
- How would you feel if you were placed in an apartment with no room mate?
