Title: Good Computing: life stories of moral exemplars in the computing profession
Faculty: Ryan Sheppard, Sociology

In recent years, the use of electronic communication technology such as cell phones, email, and online social networks has exploded. How are young adults’ lives shaped by our society’s increasing use of electronic media? What impact does the use of email, cell phones, and internet communities such as Facebook have on young adults’ abilities to expand social networks, maintain friendships, avoid “friendsickness” and limit stress (for example, from pressure to be accessible via cell phone and email)?

We will analyze survey data from St. Olaf College students, gathered by students in a Sociology/Anthropology course (SOAN 373).
