Other Mathematics Program Highlights

Students pursuing a major in mathematics also have the following opportunities:

  • Stipends for summer science research with mathematics faculty.
     
  • A Mathematics Practicum course in which teams of students solve real-world business problems during January Interim. Target Corp., General Mills, Medtronic, St. Paul Companies, Cray Research, 3M and Northwest Airlines are among the major Twin Cities corporations that have collaborated with the college’s mathematics department over the years.
     
  • The Center for Interdisciplinary Research (CIR), another NSF-supported program in which students engage in research projects with St. Olaf faculty members from a wide variety of disciplines.
     
  • International and Off-Campus Studies programs in Budapest, Hungary and Geneva, Switzerland.
     
  • Membership in the student chapter of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).
