St. Olaf College Music Skills Test

Before you start, please read the following:

1).    If you have problems running the test at home, you can take the test when you visit St. Olaf.

2).    You can't take the test on a Mac. You need the following to run the test:

  • Intel Pentium processor or higher
  • Microsoft Windows 98 SE, 2000, Me, XP, NT 4, or later
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later, or Netscape 4.0 or later
  • 32 MB RAM
  • An internet connection
  • 3).    The first time you run the test, you will need to download the Web Player for this software. It is about 3 Meg., and downloading time will depend on the speed of your internet connection. Be patient! There may not seem to be any activity for a while -- it may seem like the page is just taking a long time to load, but eventually you should see the test appear in your browser.

4).    Before the test appears, you may see some security warnings. You need to answer "yes" to dialogs labelled "security warning." There may be two of them, one to allow the installation of the Web Player and one to allow sending your score to our computer. If you don't answer "yes" to these dialogs, we won't receive your score and/or the test won't run.

5).    On more thing: when the test is running, read the directions carefully! You will be guided through each section. Good luck! Click below to take the test. Note -- if your internet connection is slow, the test may seem sluggish at times while it loads pages and sounds.
