Norwegian 111D and 111E : Oral Test Information (Ch. 7-9)
Time and Place:
On November 3rd, all sections of NOR 111 will be meeting in the computer lab in the WLC (basement of the library). During your scheduled time, you will complete a four-part oral assessment. If you are easily distracted and would prefer to complete this assessment with fewer students in the room, you may sign up to take the test during these times: 12:55-1:50 or 3.05-4:00.
Guidelines:
When you come to the computer lab, you will be given a handout and you will need a pen or pencil. No books or other resources will be allowed during the assessment. You will have a few minutes to plan what you want to say during each exam section, and you will be able to write down some individual, key words in English or Norwegian as a guide to your descriptions or questions. You will not be able to write down phrases or sentences and read from the paper, so it is important that you practice speaking freely about food, meals, and eating habits.
Each part will be submitted as 4 separate clips. You can pause the recording a couple of times during each clip, but you aren't allowed to pause between every sentence or question.
Part I: Reading (5 minutes) 15 points
Record one of the texts (Torill, Marius, or Trine) on page 93 under "Hva pleier du å spise til frokost?". The text will be chosen for you and we will provide a copy of the text for you. You should make sure to listen to each of the recordings on the NorWords website to the point that you feel confident in how to pronounce every word.
Part II: Description (15 minutes) 35 points
Describe a meal. This could include food and drinks, location, time of day, company you are eating with, opinion of food, etc. You will be given more specific guidelines on the test. In order to prepare for this part, make sure to practice discussing different meals at different locations (you might not eat the same thing in the caf that you would eat at home with your family, or in a restaurant).
Part III: Asking Questions (10 minutes) 15 points
Ask 6 questions about someone's eating habits. You will be given 6 key words --interrogatives (question words) and verbs-- and asked to make questions out of these words.
Part IV: Answering Questions (15 minutes) 35 points
Answer the 6 questions about your eating habits. You should answer each question (or set of quesitons) with 2-3 sentences. If the question asks you about foods or drinks, you should include at least 4 examples.
