ATTENDANCE:

Students are required to be present at ALL classes. Students who know that they will miss a particular class (to participate in a music or athletic event, for example), must notify the instructor BEFOREHAND. Call if you are ill, leave a message if I am not there. Attendance is worth two points per class period. 100% attendance will really help your grade! Attendance will normally be taken at the BEGINNING of the class period. Come to class prepared and with homework finished.

HOMEWORK:

Students must complete and hand in all written work on time. Each assignment will be worth two points. In order to receive credit, the assignment must be complete and be handed in during class on the day it is due. Essays and longer written assignments must be typed. After Leksjon 7 you will be responsible for finding your assignment on the web.

EXAMS:

Students must take all tests on the scheduled day. Exceptions to this policy will only be granted in cases of serious illness or emergency, and must be requested BEFOREHAND (voicemail or e-mail messages acceptable). Travel plans should be made with the syllabus in mind. Airline reservations or rides leaving do not constitute emergency.

LANGUAGE LAB:

Students are required to spend three half-hour periods per week in the language lab. This time is to be spent listening to the tapes which accompany the textbook or supplementary material assigned by the instructor. Language lab tapes are intended for practice. This means they should be listened to more than once.

DISCUSSION GROUPS:

The Norwegian Department will arrange discussion groups again this term. There will be 8-9 such groups in the course of the semester. Attendence will be rewarded with 3 points for each discussion group. Attendance is REQUIRED.

HELP!

Students are requested to inform the instructor of difficulties or problems they encounter in the course, as well as illness, family emergencies, and so forth. Assistance will gladly be arranged for students with handicaps, learning disabilities, or problems that require special accomodation, however, the student must inform the instructor if such assistance is needed. Tutoring is available.

GRADES:

Grades for the course will be based on a combination of scores on chapter tests, midterm, oral, and final exams, homework assignments, class attendance and participation, discussion group and language lab attendance. Grading is based on the following scale:

100-99=A+

90-89=B+

82-80=C+

74-73=D+

98-95=A
