Norwegian Club Consitution
Article 1: Statement of Purpose:
Norskklubben
is an organization for students interested in Norwegian and/or
Nordic Studies. In cooperation with the Norwegian House
and the Norwegian Department, Norskklubben organizes campus activities
to promote interest in Norway and the other Nordic countries,
to provide opportunities for students to use Norwegian outside
class, and to encourage social interaction among students, faculty,
and members of the community. Norskklubben meets from 8 to 9
pm on Sunday evenings in the Norwegian House.
Article II. Membership
Any student
with an interest in Norwegian and/or Nordic Studies is eligible
to be a member of Norskklubben. Each member has one
vote in elections of officers or other matters pertaining to
the organization.
Article III. Governing Body
A. Elections:
Elections will be held during the first week of classes of fall
semester.
Members can nominate themselves or any other member for the
positions on the Executive Board.
B. Executive Board
1. Co-President (from the Norwegian Club):
This co-president is elected by the members of the Norwegian
Club and is responsible for leading the weekly Norwegian Club
meetings
and for overseeing the events on campus.
2. Co-President (from the Norwegian House)
This co-president is elected by the members of the Norwegian
House and is responsible for leading the weekly Norwegian Club
meetings
and for overseeing the events in the Norwegian House.
3. Secretary
The secretary is elected by the members of the Norwegian Club
and is responsible for writing minutes of meetings and sending
them
by e-mail to members and the webmaster.
4. Advertising Manager
The advertising manager is elected by the members of the Norwegian
Club and is responsible for creating posters and flyers to
publicize Norwegian events.
5. Webmaster
The webmaster is responsible for updating the Norwegian House
and the Norwegian Club pages on the internet.
6. Treasurer
The treasurer is is elected by the members of the Norwegian
Club and is responsible for managing the money for the organization,
including collecting receipts for purchases and arranging reimbursements.
7. Norwegian Native Speaker (from the Norwegian House)
The Norwegian Native Speaker in the Norwegian House is selected
by the Norwegian Department and is responsible for modeling
the use of Norwegian language at Norwegian events.
Article IV:
Recall of Officers
At anytime may any member bring up the
recall of an officer who is not seen as fulfilling their duties.
Procedure is
as follows:
majority vote on whether recall procedures should be implemented.
If yes, then a warning shall be issued to the accused officer,
listing three offenses that the officer has committed, and
giving him/her two weeks to get up to par with the rest of
the group.
Then on the third week, the group will again have a majority
vote on whether the recall shall proceed. If yes, then the
officer has
the choice of stepping down, or they may make a short defense
for him/herself, after which the group would make the vote,
this time
2/3 majority. If the officer does not show up for the meeting
on the third week, then they will be assumed recalled. Then
on the
fourth week, reelection will take place for the empty office.
All voting procedures for recall shall be done by secret
ballot.
Article V: Amendments
Amendments
will always be permitted, however;
A. Amendments must be on the agenda at least one week prior
to the vote
B. Only eligible voting members will be able to make motions
and second them.
C. Ratification requires a two-thirds majority vote by
present eligible voting members on any issue.
Article VI.
Evaluation of Constitution
The executive board shall reevaluate this constitution
every two years, beginning with the 2005-2006 academic
year.
