Professor Hofrenning has written several journal articles and a book on religious advocacy in American politics. Recently he has also co-authored articles with students on the 2002 Minnesota Senate race and the politics of American clergy. He writes op-ed pieces for the Star Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press and provides radio and television commentary. In January 2004, Professor Hofrenning led a group of students to New Hampshire immediately prior to the New Hampshire Primary. Immersed in the marquee event of American presidential politics, students were able to intern with presidential candidates and attend a variety of events. The course was featured in media coverage by the BBC, Minnesota Public Radio, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Concord Monitor and a number of other media sources across the country. Professor Hofrenning and two co-authors are writing an article to document the impact of the course on their students. In 2005-06, Professor Hofrenning was named Interim Director of the Center for Innovation and the Liberal Arts. The center plans a variety of activities to support teaching, including luncheon seminars, guest speakers, and summer workshops. Professor Hofrenning was born in New York and grew up in Minnesota. After studying at a seminary, he did his graduate work in political science and public policy at Duke University and the University of Minnesota. |
